Melanoma March 2026

Melanoma is a disease that affects Australians more than any other country in the world. It’s the most common cancer among Australians aged 20 to 39, and every 30 minutes, another Aussie is diagnosed with melanoma. Tragically, this year alone, it’s estimated that 1,300 Australians will lose their lives to melanoma.

Since beginning in 2012, Melanoma March has grown into a powerful national campaign to raise awareness and funds for melanoma research. What started as a local community event in Manly NSW, organised by James Economides in memory of his son Michael, has now become Melanoma Institute Australia’s (MIA) major annual fundraising initiative. Michael Economides tragically passed away from melanoma in 2008 at just 20 years old. At the time, treatment options were limited, and his family was determined to make a difference.
