International Women's Day - 8th March 2026

For over a century, International Women’s Day (IWD) has been a global platform to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about gender inequality, and inspire action for change. Since its inception in 1911, IWD has belonged to everyone who believes in and supports the fight for gender equality.

This year, the 2026 national theme, "Balance the Scales," championed by UN Women Australia, highlights the critical gaps in our justice systems. It is a direct call to dismantle discriminatory laws and policies that still leave women and girls behind.

How You Can Get Involved

International Women’s Day 2026 is an opportunity for everyone to make a difference. Here’s how you can support the Campaign and help forge gender equality:

  • Support Nonprofits Advancing Women and Girls: Nonprofit organisations around the world are doing critical work to break down barriers and uplift women.
  • Host or Attend an IWD Event: Organise or attend an IWD event and incorporate a fundraising element for a women-focused cause.
  • Leverage the IWD Giving Directory: The IWD Giving Directory is a valuable resource for event organisers and individuals looking to connect with nonprofits that support women and girls.
  • Wear Purple: Show your solidarity by wearing purple, the official colour of International Women’s Day, which symbolises justice and dignity.
  • Spread the Word: Use your voice to advocate for gender equality. Share stories, raise awareness about ongoing challenges, and inspire others to take action.

Why Giving Matters

Despite the progress made in recent decades, significant barriers to gender equality remain. Women and girls around the world continue to face challenges including unequal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, as well as violence and discrimination.

By contributing to women’s advancement, whether through education, mentoring, advocacy, visibility, or donations, we can help create a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive.

Visit the official International Women’s Day website to find events near you, register your own, or access resources to support women-focused charities.
