
What Is National Nutrition Week?
National Nutrition Week is an awareness week that helps shine the light on the challenges and opportunities within Australia's Food Landscape. The program helps support and educate children and adults on Food waste, strengthening physical and mental wellbeing through healthy eating, and food insecurity.
The Week serves as a call to action for communities, policymakers and organisations to ensure Australia is a nutritionally strong county.

How Does National Nutrition Week Work?
National Nutrition Week runs from 12–18 October 2026. Throughout that week, Nutrition Australia encourages schools, workplaces, healthcare and aged care organisations, community groups and individuals to promote conversations and activities around food, nutrition and wellbeing.
Themes for 2026
- Positive Food Experiences for Children & Young People: Safe, strengths‑based nutrition messaging; enjoyable and inclusive food experiences.
- Food & Nutrition Security: Acknowledging the rising rates of food insecurity across Australia and the need for fair access to nutritious, culturally appropriate food.
- Mental Wellbeing & Food: The relationship between food, mood, mental health, and emotional wellbeing.
- Environmental Sustainability & Reducing Food Waste: Sustainable eating; reducing household and food waste in community settings.
How To Get Involved
There are several ways to get involved with National Nutrition Week. The organisation encourages communities to run their own events that match the 2026 event themes. Potential activities include.
- Organised Workplace Lunches - Organising shared lunches in schools and workplaces, encouraging people to connect over food.
- Community Cooking Activities - Hosting Barbecues, community breakfasts, picnics and other food Centered events to emphasise the importance of community.
- Food and Culture activities - Sharing recipes, food traditions and stories that hold great cultural meaning to yourself or members of your community.
- Food Waste Reduction - Practicing food waste reduction methods like composting and making more sustainable food choices.
